About Artist

Kumiko Honda

Honda devoted to studies of engi, the history of temples and design patterns flourished Edo period (1603-1868). She is distinguished for her graceful and gorgeous artworks composed of blooming flowers and patterns which have traditional meanings.
She engaged in Buddhist training when she was a graduate school student of Tokyo University of the Arts. She is an artist and at the same time a Buddhist priest of Shinshu Otani School.
Honda was born in Chogon-ji temple related to Honda Tadakatsu, a prominent warrior served for Tokugawa Ieyasu in Edo period. The popular ceiling painting of the temple was created by the cutting edge artists of Tokyo University of the Arts.
